Tuna in feeding frenzy

Just before the strong South Easterly winds started blowing, these yellowfin tuna were spotted feeding  on some bait fish near the canyon (approx 30 miles South West of Cape Point). This is encouraging, as the tuna season this year has started off rather slowly, but all indications point to an improvement soon! During the summer months, yellowfin and longfin tuna are caught  in good numbers near the canyon. They  are found here as a result of the upwelling that takes place which in turn produces food for the tuna.

Successful Team Building Event

(photo: Alan Blacklaws)

With an unexpectedly strong south easterly wind, our team of eight set off to look for some game fish off Cape Point. With reports of snoek and a couple of yellowtail in and around Southwest reefs, we started trolling from Buffels Bay. After twenty minutes we received a call that plenty of snoek were been caught off Groendam just past Diaz Beach, Cape Point. We reeled in our lines and set off for Groendam. After a fairly slow start, the snoek started biteing and before long two or three rods were going off at once! The strong south easter eased off gradually throughout the day and it turned out to be a beautiful day at sea! Returning home around four in the afternoon we off loaded about twenty good sized snoek and everybody went home with a couple.
